The Barbados Nation newspaper reported on January 27, 2010:
"Barbadians have been giving generously to Haiti relief drives since the January 12 earthquake heavily damaged the country and killed thousands of people.
On Saturday, the community of Apple Hall, Bottom Bay, St Philip, were no different as they showed that the people of the east were just as big-hearted as everyone else.
"Friday I was at work, and it just came to me [to set up a collection for Haiti] so I came home, put it to the guys and here we are," said Sulton "Stanton" Harewood.
He said they pitched a tent, erected a couple signs and people started to come with toiletries, non-perishable goods and clothes.
Their efforts did not go unnoticed as Member of Parliament for St Philip North, Michael Lashley, dropped by. He said their contribution would go towards Government's central Haiti response.
"This is a real community effort, something I support. Haitians are our brothers in the Caribbean, so we must join hands and participate in any programme which will assist the unfortunate people there," he said."
