Mondo Times editors Boulder Colorado USA | Posted at 3:10pm on Tuesday, January 12th, 2010 | Hundreds Pay Respects at Slain Calgary Herald Reporter's Funeral, the newspaper reported on January 12, 2010:
"After friends and family of slain Calgary Herald reporter Michelle Lang spoke for 100 minutes of her toughness and sweetness, her father Art Lang showed the funeral gathering photos of the Afghanistan her mother Sandra and he had visited in 1972, before a cascade of wars shattered the country.
His daughter went there to tell the stories of the fractured country and its people, and of the Canadians trying to help them rediscover peace, stability and pride.
"Michelle will not be here to see that renaissance," Art Lang told the 450 people in attendance Monday.
"Let us hope that there will be such an outcome. That will be another tribute to her."

Mondo Times editors Boulder Colorado USA | Posted at 9:24am on Thursday, December 31st, 2009 | Calgary Herald Journalist, 4 Soldiers Killed In Afghan Blast, the newspaper reported on December 31, 2009:
"Calgary Herald journalist Michelle Lang never took the easy way out, whether it was holding government to account or travelling to a busy African AIDS clinic to chronicle the downside of recruiting foreign doctors.
Assigned to cover Canadian military efforts in Afghanistan for the Herald and Canwest News Service, she ventured out with a provincial reconstruction team, soldiers and social workers working with ordinary Afghans to help repair the damage done by decades of war.
Travelling Wednesday afternoon with a Canadian convoy, their vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb four kilometres south of Kandahar city, killing Lang and four soldiers.
The soldiers' names have not been released."
