The Echo was founded in 1956 in a corner of founding editor Winnifred Weir's kitchen. Legend has it that she was able to type with one hand while stirring soup with the other. The Echo covers Invermere -- a popular summer destination for many living in the Calgary area -- and the surrounding communities of eastern British Columbia.
