Rikisutvarpio (RUV) is a TV station in Iceland covering general entertainment. Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV)- The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service is the national public-service broadcasting organization. Operating from studios in the country's capital, Reykjavík, as well as a number of regional centers around the country, the service broadcasts across the whole country via two radio channels and one television channel, Sjónvarpið. RÚV had a monopoly on domestic broadcasting until 1986. RÚV was created to promote the Icelandic language, Icelandic history and cultural heritage and honor basic democratic rules, human rights and freedom of speech. It offers the arts, media, and current affairs programming, in addition to general entertainment in the form of feature films and internationally popular television shows. The web site is presented in the Icelandic language.
