Il Giornale is a daily newspaper in Milan, Italy covering local news, sports, business, jobs, and community events.
Il Giornale was founded in 1974 by the Italian journalist Indro Montanelli, under the title Il Giornale Nuovo. From the beginning the newspaper took a stance against the left-wing parties of Italy. In 1977, Silvio Berlusconi became a shareholder of the newspaper's publishing house, Società Europea di edizioni with a share of 12% that increased to 30% in 1979 when he became the biggest shareholder in the company. In 1990 a new law was introduced in Italy prohibiting any individual from owning television stations or daily newspapers. Because of the new law, Silvio Berlusconi sold the publishing company to his brother Paolo Berlusconi and kept a small amount of shares. Indro Montanelli had edited and published Il Giornale from its start, until Berlusconi entered politics (December 1993). At that time Montanelli left and founded the daily newspaper La Voce.
This newspaper is owned by Paolo Berlusconi.
The web site is presented in the Italian language.
