Myanmar Times is a newspaper in Yangon, Burma (Myanmar) covering local news, sports, business, jobs, and community events.
The Myanmar Times is a weekly newspaper that is published in both English and Burmese. The English edition is published on Monday, and the Burmese version is published each Thursday. The newspaper was founded in 2000 by Ross Dunkley and Sonny Swe. Dunkley, an Austrlian citizen, is also the editor of the paper. In 2005, Sonny Swe was imprisoned and his interest in the newspaper was sold to Dr. Tin Tun Oo, who is said to have close ties to the Myanmar Ministry of Information, which censors media published in the country. The relationship is thought to mean that the newspaper supports government policy, and to explain why a private company is allowed to publish a newspaper in Myanmar, which is controlled by a military dictatorship.
This newspaper is owned by Myanmar Consolidated Media Co. Ltd..
The web site is presented in the English and Burmese languages.
