Mondo Times editors Boulder Colorado USA | Posted at 4:54pm on Saturday, January 2nd, 2010 | Welsh townsfolk must be asked their views on public art before reading about it in the media, The Llanelli Star reported on January 1, 2010:
"That is the call from councillors eager to see greater future involvement from the public following several new art pieces.
Over the past few years the town has seen a metal tree, nicknamed "the rusty tree", a metal leaf and steel dragon — and, this year, salmon sculptures on the banks of the Towy have been added to the list.
Other art pieces currently being made for the St Catherine's Walk retail development include a drover, duck and sheep to signify the town's droving history.
However, in September, town councillor Anthony Jenkins claimed the art would make Carmarthen the laughing stock of Wales.
At last month's meeting of the town council he reiterated the need for the people living in town to have a say on the art being placed in town.
He said that the first town leaders learn of public art plans in the town is following reports in the local media."
