Anniston Star is a daily newspaper in Anniston, Alabama, USA covering local news, sports, business, jobs, and community events.
The newspaper is published seven days a week.
Founded in 1883, The Anniston Star covers a six-county region of east central Alabama. The Star is Consolidated Publishing's flagship paper, a locally owned and managed Alabama company dating back to the paper's founding. During the American civil rights movement the paper had the reputation of being one of the few liberal minded southern voices. It was nicknamed “The Red Star” by southern populist politician George Wallace, governor of Alabama between 1963-1987. The criticism was largely directed at the support The Star gave toward school integration and civil rights.
