Mondo Times editors Boulder, Colorado USA | Posted at 11:54am on Wednesday, August 12th, 2009 | On August 6, 2009, Time Inc. announced that the company will stop publishing a print edition of Southern Accents magazine.
The September/October 2009 issue of Southern Accents will be the last. The magazine website will remain active, although it is unclear how much it will be maintained and updated.
Approximately 20 of the 29 employees at Southern Accents will lose their jobs, Time Inc. said. The Time Inc. Lifestyle Digital Group will run the website.
Time Inc. subsidiary Southern Progress Corp. bought Southern Accents in 1985. Southern Progress, which also publishes Southern Living, Cooking Light, Health and Coastal Living magazines.
Southern Accents had a circulation of about 400,000. Magazine ad pages fell 37.4% in the first half of 2009, compared with the first half of 2008, according to the Publishers Information Bureau.
