In 1957, the News received a Pulitzer Prize for Buford Boone's editorials about the issue of segregation at the University of Alabama. Besides its editorial offices in Tuscaloosa, the News maintains a state capital bureau in Montgomery. On January 6, 2012, as part of a 16-newspaper deal worth $143 million, The New York Times Company sold the News to Halifax Media Holdings, LLC.
