The Gwinnett Daily Post traces its roots to the founding of The Lawrenceville News Herald in 1958. In 1964, Robert D. Fowler, previously editor of the Marietta Daily Journal, acquired the News Herald and two other Gwinnett weeklies: The Buford Advertiser and the News of Gwinnett. A year later, Fowler combined the three weeklies into one daily paper, The Gwinnett Daily News. In 1987, the Daily News was sold to The New York Times Company. In 1992, the Daily News was shut down by the Times Company and the assets were sold to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. In 1992, the Gwinnett Home Weekly, founded in 1970 by a former Daily News advertising director, began publishing twice weekly and changed its name to the Gwinnett Post-Tribune. In 1995, the Post-Tribune was acquired by Gray Communications Systems. On September 5, 1995, the newspaper was renamed The Gwinnett Daily Post. On December 30, 2005, Gray Television's board of directors approved a spinoff of its newspaper publishing and wireless business, giving the Daily Post a new owner, Triple Crown Media.
