The Jewish Star began publishing on February 22, 1991, and published its final issue on May 1, 2018. It provided news and analysis of events and issues of interest to the Jewish community of Greater Chicago, and was distributed for free in green news boxes. Doug Wertheimer founded the newspaper with his wife Gila, and served as the editor and publisher from beginning to end. Wertheimer said he shut the paper down because "the advertising dried up."
Circulation estimate: 17,500 copies
