The Gary Post-Tribune was first published in 1907 as The Gary Weekly. It was established to serve the new steel industry rising on the shores of Lake Michigan. In 1908, the Gary Weekly became a daily and was renamed The Gary Tribune. The Tribune bought a competing daily paper, the Gary Evening Post, in 1910, and the two newspapers merged in 1921 to form the Post-Tribune. In June 1986, the publishing schedule changed to a seven-day morning edition, from a weekday evening and weekend morning edition.
