The Gary Post-Tribune covers local news, events and people in the city of Gary and across Lake County in the northwestern corner of Indiana. It publishes sports, classifieds, opinion, entertainment, features and more.

The newspaper was first published in 1907 as The Gary Weekly. It was established to serve the new steel industry rising on the shores of Lake Michigan. In 1908, the Gary Weekly became a daily and was renamed The Gary Tribune. The Tribune bought a competing daily paper, the Gary Evening Post, in 1910 and the two newspapers merged in 1921 to form the Post-Tribune.

In June 1986, the publishing schedule changed to a seven-day morning edition from a weekday evening and weekend morning edition.

Tribune Publishing, which owns the Chicago Tribune, bought the Post-Tribune from Sun-Times Meda Holdings in October 2014. Tribune Publishing is owned by hedge fund Alden Global Capital, a major player in American newspaper publishing which invests mainly in distressed financial assets.
