Leavenworth Times is a daily newspaper in Leavenworth, Kansas, USA covering local news, sports, business, jobs, and community events.
The newspaper is published six days a week - Monday through Saturday.
The Times was founded in 1856 by Robert Crozier. In 1871 Daniel R. Anthony (brother of Susan B. Anthony) bought the newspaper. That same year, Anthony shot and killed rival publisher R.C. Satterlee of the Kansas Herald. A jury acquitted Anthony. In 1875 Anthony was shot at the Leavenworth Opera House by rival editor William Embry, editor of the Daily Appeal. He survived and the Anthony family continued to publish the Times until the 1960s. The Thomson Corporation bought the Times in 1966; they sold the paper, along with 11 other papers, to the American Publishing Company (later Hollinger International) in 1995. In 1999, Hollinger sold the Times to GateHouse Media.
