The Acadian-Tribune traces its roots to the founding of The Rayne Signal on March 13, 1886. It was purchased by W.W. Duson in September 1, 1886 and later converted to a daily newspaper and moved to Crowley. Other predecessors were The Acadia Sentinel, begun September 14, 1886; The Ranger, published from 1891 to 1894; and, The Acadia Herald, begun in 1894. In 1904, James L. Craig purchased the Rayne Tribune and it remained in the Craig family until the early 1950s when it was combined with The Acadian. Myrta Fair Craig served as the publisher from 1924 until her death in 1994. The Rayne-Acadian Tribune was the first newspaper acquired by Louisiana State Newspapers in 1963. Rayne is known as the Frog Capital of the World and the Louisiana City of Murals.
