The Biddeford Journal Tribune published its final edition on October 12, 2019. Owner MaineToday Media said the newspaper was not profitable and that existing subscribers will receive the Portland Press Herald instead.
The Journal Tribune began with two weekly political newspapers -- The Union founded in 1845 and the Eastern Journal a decade later. Beacon Press, Inc., owned by the Sample News Group of Pennsylvania, acquired the Journal Tribune in 1997. MaineToday Media, owned by Reade Brower, bought the Journal Tribune from Sample News Group on April 1, 2018.

Goodbye to Maine's Biddeford Journal Tribune
-- On October 12, 2019, the 135 year-old newspaper in southwestern Maine published its final issue. Masthead Media bought the Biddeford Journal Tribune in April 2018, but the company was unable to turn the money-losing operation around.
