Annapolis is the capital of Maryland, as well as the county seat of Anne Arundel County. The city is situated on the Chesapeake Bay at the mouth of the Severn River, 26 miles south of Baltimore and about 29 miles east of Washington, District of Columbia. Annapolis was the temporary capital of the United States in 1783–1784. It is the home of the United States Naval Academy and St. John's College.
