Eric Kallgren Boulder, Colorado USA | Posted at 11:07pm on Thursday, March 26th, 2009 | The Bay City Times will no longer be a daily newspaper in June 2009, switching to publishing 3 days a week:
On Monday March 23, 2009, Jeff Kart of The Bay City Times reported that the paper will publish 3 days a week:
"Times are tough, and The Bay City Times is fighting for its future, Publisher C. Kevin Dykema says.
The newspaper, which has published a daily print edition for 136 years, will become a three-day print publication on Thursday, Friday and Sunday starting June 4.
The Times will continue to cover local news around-the-clock, providing daily information online at mlive.com/bay-city.
Both the print and online versions of The Times will be redesigned and enhanced, with more emphasis on local news.
Dykema announced the changes in a somber meeting with staff Monday morning.
"I've got bad news today," he said before reading from a prepared statement. "I won't try to say it any other way."
Similar meetings were held at The Times' sister papers, The Saginaw News and The Flint Journal. All three publications are owned by Advance Publications.
In Bay City, Mayor Charles M. Brunner said he would miss his daily printed newspaper.
"I'll be very honest, I'm very disappointed, but it's a matter of economics," Brunner said."
