WBKP-TV began broadcasting on October 30, 1996 from studios in the historic Calumet and Hecla Bath House. In January 2004, original owners Tom and Sue Scanlan sold the station to Lake Superior Community Broadcasting, a company owned by Stephan Marks of Maryland. The station's call letters WBKP, stand for Beautiful Keweenaw Peninsula. It is a sister station of ABC affiliate WBUP-TV 10.
