The Times traces its roots to the founding of The Press in 1889. The News began publication in 1890. The Review began operations in 1903. In 1905, The Review and The Press merged. In 1912, the News and Press merged to form the News-Press. In 1911, the Thief River Falls Times was formed with the intent of taking over the two rival newspapers. In 1917, the Times succeeded in purchasing News-Press and began publishing as the Thief River Falls Times. In 1927, the Times was consolidated with The Tribune, another rival newspaper. Since 1968, the Times has published semi-weekly newspapers and printed other area publications now owned by Page 1 Publications. The Times also publishes the Northern Watch once per week on Saturdays
