Mississippi Braces for Several Inches of Snow

WAPT TV 16 (Jackson, Miss.) reported on February 11, 2010:

"Much of Mississippi is under a winter storm warning until Friday afternoon, with accumulations of 3 to 10 inches possible in central and southern counties, according to the Live Storm Shield 16 Weather team.

Snow is expected to spread over the region beginning Thursday and continue into Friday afternoon, when it will begin moving to the east, WAPT Chief Meteorologist David Hartman said.

The bulk of heavier accumulating snow will occur after 9 p.m. through mid-morning Friday, Hartman said. The Jackson area could see at least 3 to 5 inches and perhaps up to 6 inches in some areas, Hartman said. There will be a band of 5 to 10 inches possible along the Natchez to Brookhaven line. Residents can expect significant accumulations on trees and power lines, Hartman said.

Measurable snow has not been reported in Jackson since 1985, Hartman said."
