The Daily Star was founded in 1854 as the weekly Grenada Sentinel. The newspaper switched to daily publication in 1934. On September 29, 2009, the Daily Star announced that it would begin publishing twice weekly. It covers Grenada and the surrounding communities of Grenada County, Mississippi. The Lee family acquired the newspaper in 1955.
