The Times traces its roots to the founding of the Weirs Times and Tourist's Gazette in 1883 by Matthew H. Calvert. He published the newspaper until his death in 1902. In 1992, The Weirs Times was resurrected by publisher Bob Lawton. Using the original masthead from Matthew Calvert's publication, as well as the map of Lake Winnipesaukee which occupied the center spread of the original newspaper, the first edition of the new Weirs Times hit the stands with 5,000 copies in June of 1992. The Times covers Weirs and the surrounding communities of Belknap County, New Hampshire.
