The Arizona Republic is Arizona's largest newspaper and is distributed throughout the state. It was founded on May 19, 1890 as The Arizona Republican, and took its current name in 1930. The paper was owned by Phoenix business leader Eugene C. Pulliam from 1946 until his death in 1975. Today, the Arizona Republic is published by Gannett Company, which bought the newspaper in 2000. Gannett also owns the Arizona Business Gazette and KPNX TV Channel 12 in Phoenix.
