KPHO TV 5 is an affiliate of the CBS Television Network.
On December 4, 1949, KPHO became Arizona's first TV station. For the first few months, the station signed on at around 4 p.m. each day and signed off between 10 p.m. to midnight. The first programs aired by KPHO were created for children and included "The Man From Planet X" and "The Lew King Show." KPHO was the first Arizona station to telecast local live programs, to cover sports events with remote telecasts and to telecast underwater.
