Boulder-Based Media Group Buys Sun City Daily News-Sun

The Associated Press reported on March 9, 2010:

"A federal bankruptcy court judge on Tuesday approved Freedom Communication's sale of two Arizona newspapers — the East Valley Tribune in Mesa and the Daily News-Sun in Sun City — to a Boulder-based media company.

The $2 million deal between Freedom and 1013 Communications Group is expected to close next month. The buyer is a partnership of Boulder-based Thirteenth Street Media and Reno, Nev.-based 10K Investments LLC.

Randy Miller, president and owner of Thirteenth Street Media, will serve as publisher and run the daily operations. Miller is a former owner and publisher of the Colorado Daily.

"It was always my intent to purchase the entire group, so I'm very pleased it finally worked out — after a lot of time and effort," he told the Tribune. "They are excellent, community-focused papers which are at the core of our business strategy."

Along with the Tribune and News-Sun print and web products, the sale includes the Ahwatukee Foothills News weekly newspaper and the Clipper direct-mail coupon magazine."
