KWBA signed on air New Year's day in 1999 with its original call letters KAUC. It is broadcast on digital channel 44, though prior to the digital switchover in 2009 the station used analog channel 58.
In September 2006, the station became an affiliate of the CW network. It was formerly affiliated with the WB, hence the call letters KWBA.
