Eric Kallgren Boulder, Colorado USA | Posted at 3:32pm on Sunday, April 19th, 2009 | The Jersey Journal -- which is reported to be losing $1 million per year -- will not be shut down, at least no yet, the New York Post reported on April 14, 2009:
"The Jersey Journal has survived another near-death experience.
The Newhouse-owned daily newspaper -- put on deathwatch in early February -- will stick around for a while longer, though in slightly smaller form as 12 more positions from the 160-person staff will be let go, including seven on the editorial side.
On Feb. 2, Advance Publications, the parent company of the Evening Journal Association, which publishes the 130,000-circulation daily, set a deadline of yesterday to reach certain revenue projections and cost cuts or face getting shut down along with free weeklies in Hudson County, NJ.
Publisher Kendrick Ross called a company-wide meeting yesterday morning in which he said the paper had met its first-quarter goals and was being allowed to continue."

Eric Kallgren Boulder, Colorado USA | Posted at 3:58pm on Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 | On February 4, 2009, Media Life magazine reported that the Jersey Journal may be gone by April:
Yet another daily newspaper is on the verge of shutting down. The Evening Journal Association, owner of the Jersey Journal, a 47,000-circulation daily in Hudson County, told employees this week that if it does not find a way to increase revenue, it will close the Journal and a number of neighboring weekly papers in April. Publisher Kendrick Ross said in a statement, “We are optimistic that we will be able to come up with a plan that will save The Jersey Journal and some of our weeklies and position ourselves to grow, once the economy rebounds.” The EJA has already begun reducing expenses. On Friday, it said it will discontinue the free Spanish-language weekly El Nuevo Herald as of Feb. 26.
