The Las Vegas Optic editorialized on January 4, 2010:
"Las Vegas Mayor Tony Marquez announced last week that he wouldn’t run for another two-year term. That took us by surprise, given that he is an ambitious, relatively young man.
Promising to bring transparency and accountability to City Hall, Marquez came in with the support of many in the community. Indeed, this newspaper endorsed his candidacy. Perhaps the mayor really intended to keep his promises. But it didn’t work out that way.
We don’t need a mayor who says one thing and does another. Consistency in word and deed would be a far better way to lead City Hall in 2010."

Mondo Times editors Boulder, Colorado USA | Posted at 3:14pm on Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 | On January 27, 2009, the editor of the Las Vegas Optic announced that the newspaper's long history as a daily is about to end:
"The Las Vegas Optic announced today that it will be reducing its publication frequency from five days a week to three.
The Optic, which currently publishes Mondays through Fridays, will begin a Monday-Wednesday-Friday publication schedule by March 2, editor and publisher Tom McDonald announced.
“Economic circumstances necessitate the change. We’ve got to cut expenses,” McDonald said.
McDonald said the newspaper reduced its workforce by attrition last year — by the equivalent of about four full-time positions. No layoffs are scheduled at this time, he said, though the newspaper has carrier contracts that will likely be ended as the newspaper moves to mailed deliveries.
The Optic currently has 21 full- and part-time employees. It also has contracts with more than a dozen carriers delivering to homes in San Miguel, Mora and Guadalupe counties.
The Optic’s subscription rates will go down as a result of the frequency reduction. The adjusted rates will be announced in February, McDonald said.
According to its Statement of Ownership filed Oct. 1, the Optic had a total paid circulation of 4,359."
