Eric Kallgren Boulder, Colorado USA | Posted at 6:06pm on Thursday, February 19th, 2009 | February 18, 2009: The Albany Times-Union announced a content-sharing agreement with four other newspapers in the region:
"Five northeastern newspapers, including the Times Union, this morning announced they will begin sharing content, a move that could help the publications cut expenses during a difficult economic time for the industry.
The other papers included in the what’s being called the Northeast Consortium are The Buffalo News, the New York Daily News and two New Jersey papers, The Star-Ledger of Newark and the Record of Bergen County. Details of the arrangement are still being finalized, but the papers say they will enhance each other’s coverage by exchanging articles, photographs and graphics.
“Adding the work of these newspapers to our pages will give Capital Region readers access to some of the nation’s best coverage of news, sports and lifestyle topics,” said Rex Smith, editor and vice president of the Times Union. “We’re particularly pleased to be able to augment our already strong coverage of New York’s professional and collegiate sports teams. Information consumers have a wide range of choices nowadays, but this arrangement makes the Times Union’s value to readers all the more obvious.” "
