Eric Kallgren Boulder, Colorado USA | Posted at 2:56pm on Tuesday, May 12th, 2009 | Cablevision is not planning to sell the Newsday Newspaper, Newsday reported on May 11, 2009:
"Cablevision Systems Corp. said Monday that it is not considering the sale of Madison Square Garden or any of its MSG units or other Cablevision businesses.
The Bethpage-based company said Thursday that its board of directors had given executives permission to consider spinning off Madison Square Garden.
That would mean Madison Square Garden and its related operations - including the New York Knicks basketball team, the New York Rangers hockey team, Radio City Music Hall and The Beacon Theatre - could become a separate company, possibly one with shares traded on the stock exchange.
Cablevision, the largest cable television operator in the metropolitan area, said Monday that its announcement Thursday "has resulted in speculation that has included the possible sale of MSG and/or other Cablevision and MSG businesses.
"The company feels it should make clear that it is not considering the sale of MSG or any of MSG's businesses or any other Cablevision business at this time," the company said."

Eric Kallgren Boulder, Colorado USA | Posted at 1:15pm on Tuesday, February 10th, 2009 | February 10, 2009: The New York Post reported that Cablevision Systems Corporation will write down its investment in Newsday:
"For Cablevision, Newsday has been nothing but bad news.
The Long Island-based cable company's foray into newspapers is proving to be an ugly one after the firm said it would write down its newspaper assets by between $375 million and $450 million.
The stunning revelation, made in a filing yesterday to the Securities and Exchange Commission, is the latest chapter in what has been a challenging situation for Cablevision, whose assets include cable systems and channels, the Knicks, the Rangers and Madison Square Garden.
Cablevision last spring acquired Newsday plus a batch of smaller papers for $650 million from Sam Zell's now-bankrupt Tribune Co., and completed the sale last July."
