Sports Radio Pioneer Art Rust Dies at 82

Media Life magazine reported on January 14, 2010:

"Art Rust Jr., a pioneer in the world of sports talk radio, died on Tuesday of complications from Parkinson’s disease at age 82. Rust was a sports talk host on New York’s WABC in the 1980s, and he also wrote and co-wrote a number of books throughout the course of his career. Rust's WABC show, which included interviews with sports figures and calls from listeners, launched in 1981, helping pave the way for the rise of sports radio. "Citadel Broadcasting Corp., which owns WABC in New York and WLS in Chicago, filed for U.S. bankruptcy protection in Manhattan with a deal to shed $1.4 billion of debt.

The company, which syndicates Don Imus’s morning talk show through its U.S. radio network, listed assets of $1.4 billion and debt of $2.5 billion in its Chapter 11 filing yesterday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
