Dan's Papers was founded by Dan Rattiner. On summer vacation from college in 1960, Rattiner published the first issue of the Montauk Pioneer on July 1, 1960 in the fishing resort town of Montauk, New York. Over the next 50 years, it would grow into Dan's Papers, a free weekly newspaper with multiple editions chronicling the year-round and summer populations of the neighboring communities collectively known as The Hamptons.
