Classes at UNC-Chapel Hill were canceled until 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 1, 2010 due to severe weather.

UNC's student paper, The Daily Tar Heel, reported on January 31, 2010:

"All UNC classes are canceled until 10 a.m. Monday, according to a notice posted to unc.edu and the Alert Carolina Web site. Offices will be open on their regular schedules.

Roads are still icy and dangerous despite efforts to thaw them, according to a Town of Chapel Hill news release.

Police responded to two traffic accidents Saturday night, the release states. A car stuck in snow off Dawes Street caught fire after a mechanical failure, but fire crews responded and nobody was seriously injured.

All primary roads have been salted and plowed once or twice, in an effort using 10 snow plows, five motor graters and four box spreaders.

Town libraries and parks and recreation facilities are closed Sunday. Normal Monday trash collection will be postponed until Wednesday."
