The Journal was founded in 1898 as The Clarkton Express. The Express survived changes in ownership, and occasional lapses in continuous publication times, to become the Bladen Journal in 1909. It covers Clarkton, Elizabethtown and the surrounding communities of Bladen County, North Carolina.
