It switched to semi-weekly publication in 1919, and to its current six-day-a-week schedule on September 6, 1948. The Dispatch covers Lexington and the surrounding communities of Davidson County, North Carolina. The New York Times Company acquired the newspaper in 1973. On January 6, 2012, as part of a 16-newspaper deal worth $143 million, The Times Co. sold The Dispatch to Halifax Media Holdings, LLC.
