Often referred to as the N&O, The News & Observer is a regional newspaper of the Research Triangle area of North Carolina.

Based in Raleigh, it also covers Durham, Cary and Chapel Hill. The paper traces its roots to The Sentinel founded in 1865. That paper was absorbed by The Observer which merged with The News in 1880 creating The News & Observer.
