Family of North Carolina Crash Victim, Driver Speak Out

WITN TV 7 (N.C.) reported on January 19, 2010:

"The teen who was behind the wheel of a deadly wreck says he is sorry for what happened.

Matthew Hill has been charged by troopers with failure to yield right of way after they say he turned in front of a vehicle on Highway 258 Tuesday afternoon. "I looked, I looked twice, and the sun was in my eyes so, and I thought it was clear. At the last second out of the corner of my eye I saw a flash of red and the next thing I know the car hit and spun," Hill told WITN News.

Killed in the accident was 17-year-old Miranda Tyndall. "I want to tell them that I'm sorry that they lost their daughter and that I'm sorry that I was driving the car that caused that. I'm just so sorry for that," Hill said.

The accident happened on Highway 258 and Stroud's Corner Road.

"God took her for a reason, I don't know why," said the victim's mother, Angie Tyndall.

Tyndall was a junior at South Lenoir High School. Her mother says her daughter had big aspirations. "She wanted to go to Los Angeles, California, somewhere and she was going to draw for movies. But she wouldn't leave home, she never left home so I don't know how she was going to do it," her mom told WITN's Ken Heineck."
