Canton Repository Garners Honorable Mention Nod From AP Sports Editors Awards, according to an APSE press release, December 28, 2009:

"There were two divisions judged by a panel of APSE members: under 1 million unique visitors during a month and over 1 million unique visitors during a month.

As is the case of the best sports sections judged by APSE, a top 10 and an honorable mention group of 10 were selected.

"The judges came away very impressed by the efforts evidenced on the day we randomly selected,” said Gerry Ahern, Assistant Managing Editor for Yahoo! Sports. “The editors clearly understand the importance of not only drawing, but trying to engage their audiences.

"Getting down to a top 20 in each category was very difficult. There’s a lot of great work being done."

Joining the Canton Repository as honorees in the Under 1 Million Uniques category were The Capital Times/Wisconsin State Journal, Tulsa World, Florida Today, Colorado Springs Gazette and
The Times of Northwest Indiana."
