Independent Thinker    Beavercreek, Ohio

Posted at 1:59pm on Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

The content of this local hometown newspaper leans so far right it would almost be laughable if it were not so obvious. The content is about average to poor for any small town Republican newspaper, but it is adequate for neo-conservative belief systems. The credibility level goes along with the right-wing political bias of the Beavercreek News Current (well really 19th or 20th century quality paper, especially one in either the North or South during the American Civil War, and reflects such extremism). The real JOKE is that this propaganda rag is so questionable and politically biased that not only is it very OBVIOUS to even morons, they have to give the paper away to folks in the town who can THINK for themselves. I mean no kidding FREE! Guess that is in hope that everyone will read it and take it like well, Jim Jones Cool Aid. Example: We are going into the 4th of July and in this Air Force base town, run by former or current base civilian employess, every, not one or two and no pretense to balances reporting but every Editorial was not only PRO-WAR, but went out of it's way to question anyone's patriotism who does not exploit our troops and military families. Here are the four title articles ranked by Patriotic Zeal, and I do mean ZEAL as in fanatical Nationalist:

1. Kids deserve change to learn from losing. This article one would think about the lessons children, and young adults take away from the addage: "It is not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game." WRONG. Remember this article was selected specifically for it's application to July the 4th and by inferrence the Iraq War. The writer goes from the positive lessons of good sportsmanship into closing with, "It's not whether you get knocked down; its whether you get up." The lesson this paper wants to teach is that kids need to learn the glory of winning and hardship of defeat. That's fine, but to publish such crapola going into Independence Day is like viewing WAR as a sports event.
2. It get's worse, Thank You for the Flags. No comment, but has something to do with an Amendment to the Consititution to protect the American Flag from everyone except the American Legion and VFW who hack them in retail sales in order to make up for lowering membership or dues that do not cover the right-wing politicians they support.
3. This one's been around a while, and is a favorite of the dwindling WWII population, yes they are living longer. Red Skelton's Pledging Allegianace. This old fart ends his flag waving with a comment about "under god" being added to the Pledge of Allegiance since Skelton who failed to out live those now quoting him, "Wouldn't it be a pity if someone said, "That's a prayer" and that would be eliminated from schools, too?" With what, nearing 5,000 allegiance pledger's (and counting) fallen in Iraqnam, couldn't we at least have an Independent Day that also is not turned into yet another Holy Christian Crusade we cannot win!
3. Last by not least is this tid bit that is more appropriate for April Fools Day, "Celebrating our pride in God, country and troops." Frankly, I use to drink the cool aid, I use to lean right, but when I read something as obviously one sided as this, it is way past time to pass on the cool aid. After getting bogged down with how glorious and victorious WWII was (gag) the writer goes off on an everyone is unamerican tangent that would make anyone capable of thinking for themselves have bowel movements, and I quote, "Any and all wars have protagonists, supporters, and those who denounce our country's involvement. Today isn't about our different opinions. (FINGERS CROSSED/WINK!It isn't about agreeing or disagreeing with the politicies or politics of our military or commander-in-chief (Yep, we know where this is obviously going, well some of us anyway!) Today is a day of honor. Singing songs that praise the men and women who work and fight for our country. Buying a beer at the VFW for the old timers with battle scars still shining in their worn faces. (Battle scars DO NOT shine folks, if you are or were a combat Vet or medic, you'd know that. And do not even get me started on VFW and Legion Clubs, Bars, and Bingos. These guys (and a few gals) need to get on Stop Smoking and Stop Drinking Programs of some kind. Any younger Vet who DOES NOT SMOKE nor drinks except to self medicate themselves while being convinced by their Commander-In-Chiefs chronies, even within the VFW and Legion, that PTSD is only for sissies. "Today is for embracing a young mother who husband just shipped out, keeping her and her family in your prayers (except if she questions her husbands fourth or fifth deployment, then move onto some young mother who like US supports OUR PRESIDENT). Today is also a day of sadness (that is about the smartest well only smart thing this writer had to say). Within this reading audience there are families still hurting [because of sons, brothers, or cousins they lost during Vietnam, but they blindly support their commander-in-chief now. Well folks do you feel guilty enough yet for not supporting their President, their Commander-In-Chief, and their vision of our Armed Forces should be. Then by all means move to Beavercreek, Ohio. I will sell you my house - CHEAP, especially if you are an ethnic minority. Nope, I couldn't do that to you, unless you were a minority Republican or ethnic minority member who wants to draft Condi Rice for VP in 2008. In sum, the NEOCONs are going to make every patriotic observance from now until November, and even throw in Veterans Day AFTER Obama or Ron Paul wins to make it THEIR NATIONALISTIC OBSERVANCE. If you can think for yourself, I know there is a few of you out there. Check it out, there is a vast crevess between Patriotism and Nationalism. One can patriotically love their country, their constitution, their freedoms, and still say with confidence - MY GOVERNMENT AND THE IMMORAL MINORITY ARE WRONG!!!
