Danville News is a daily newspaper in Danville, Pennsylvania, USA covering local news, sports, business, jobs, and community events.
The newspaper is published five days a week, Monday through Friday.
The News traces its roots to the founding of The Sunbury Daily (1872) and Evening Item (1893). Though both newspapers had been in existence since the mid to late 1800s, they had to merge after a flood in 1936 changed their outlooks. The resulting combination, which took effect July 1, 1937, was The Daily Item. It covers Danville and the surrounding communities of Montour County, Pennsylvania. On April 15, 1970, the newspaper became an affiliate of Ottaway Newspapers Inc. Ottaway is a subsidiary of Dow Jones & Company, Inc. The Daily Item became the group's ninth newspaper. In 2001 under the leadership of Janet A. Tippett, president and publisher, negotiations began for the purchase of The Danville News. The Danville News became part of the Ottaway group and affiliated with The Daily Item. On December 6, 2006 Community Newspaper Holding Inc. purchased The Daily Item/ The Danville News.
