January 7, 2010: An editorial writer for The Doylestown (Penn.) Intelligencer says that airport security failures demand more than mere words:

"Those in Obama's inner circle who listened to the president's tongue-lashing have collectively admitted responsibility. Such a group mea culpa spares Obama the unpleasant task of giving one or more security chiefs the boot; he can't fire everybody. People have been fired for a lot less, however.

The more important matter, of course, is what the government does to shore up its leaky security, particularly at airports. A number of recent incidents besides the Detroit attack - unauthorized people wandering into supposedly secure airport areas; news that the Transportation Security Administration's three bomb-sniffing dogs assigned to Philadelphia International Airport all flunked their recertification - point to a security apparatus that's severely deficient."
