Mondo Times editors Boulder Colorado USA | Posted at 9:17am on Monday, February 8th, 2010 | KDKA AM 1020, Dollar Energy Fund Co-Sponsor 2010 'Warmathon'
Pittsburgh, February 8, 2010 -- NewsRadio 1020 KDKA and Dollar Energy Fund, Inc. are teaming up for the 2010 "Warmathon," a 31-hour live broadcast from the PPG Wintergarden on February 11th & 12th. The Warmathon will support Dollar Energy Fund's Hardship Program and help low-income families maintain safe utility service.
"The current economic climate and the harsh winter weather are making many of our neighbors throughout the Pittsburgh area struggle to stay warm," said Cindy Datig, chief executive officer, Dollar Energy Fund. "Many of our elderly and working neighbors struggle to maintain safe utilities. No one should have to face a Pittsburgh winter without utility service. Our goal is to spread the warmth to more than 1400 families in the Pittsburgh area."
The 2010 NewsRadio 1020 KDKA Warmathon to benefit Dollar Energy Fund will raise funds to support the Fund's Hardship Program, a utility assistance program that provides grants to low-income households. Local utilities, including Allegheny Power, Columbia Gas, Peoples Gas, Duquesne Light and Equitable Gas along with Ohio Valley General Hospital, other corporations, small businesses and volunteers are joining NewsRadio 1020 KDKA and Dollar Energy Fund in this effort.
KDKA and Dollar Energy Fund invite Pittsburghers to Help Spread the Warmth and support the Warmathon! Dollar Energy Fund's partnering utility companies will match your donation dollar for dollar - doubling the impact of your contribution.

Mondo Times editors Boulder, Colorado USA | Posted at 1:36pm on Friday, August 14th, 2009 | KDKA AM 1020 describes itself as the oldest commercial radio station in the United States. Other radio stations have made the same claim.
KDKA is one of four remaining radio stations east of the Mississippi River that have call letters beginning with K, rather than W. The others are KQV AM in Pittsburgh, KYW AM in Philadelphia and KFIZ in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
KDKA was first owned by the Westinghouse Electric Company. On November 2, 1920, KDKA broadcast one of the first ever radio news broadcasts, reporting the US presidential election returns (Warren Harding beat James Cox) from a shack on the roof of a Westinghouse building in East Pittsburgh.
