Reality and Fiction Merge in Former Bradford County Resident's Book

The Wyalusing (Penn.) Rocket Courier reported on January 14, 2010:

"Ray Doyen lived through a nightmare years ago when he resided in Bradford County. His daughter was raped near the college she was attending one night and the perpetrator, who Doyen was able to track down on his own, was never tried for the crime.

What came out of it was a book based on what he went through. Yet it took a move to North Carolina and a good 15 years before he put the story in writing. That story evolved into a novel, “A Father’s Anguish,” which tells of another young college girl who was raped and assaulted and a father obsessed with finding her attacker. Both the real Ray Doyen, who goes by R.W. Doyen, and the victim’s father in his novel, John Stratton, did manage to track down the rapist. But what they did at that juncture was totally different. In both cases, there was a confrontation, but in the literary version the outcome would be described as vigilante justice, with the father himself becoming the target of a murder investigation."
