Eric Kallgren Boulder, Colorado USA | Posted at 2:32pm on Monday, May 4th, 2009 | The city of Myrtle Beach is trying to rid itself of some 500,000 motorcyclists who descend on the town of 24,000 people each May. It's just like High Noon, or possibly more like Blazing Saddles. Local politicians and businesspeople say that the hordes of fat old white guys on Harleys drive away the more respectable golfers and family vacationers.
On Monday, May 4, 2009, the Myrtle Beach Sun News reported that local police plan to work overtime during the motorcycle rallies:
"Area police plan to increase their patrols, conduct traffic safety checkpoints and use assistance from other police agencies as the start of the May motorcycle rallies approaches this week, local law enforcement officials said.
The Harley-Davisdon bike rally begins on Friday, and police will be working overtime to ensure motorcyclists are safe and orderly this year - the first for enforcement of Myrtle Beach's new motorcycle-related ordinances. Other Horry County law enforcement officers also plan to increase their patrols."
