WMC TV 5 is an affiliate of the NBC Television Network.
WMC TV 5 began broadcasting on December 11, 1948 as WMCT-TV. It was Tennessee's first television station. It was owned by the E.W. Scripps Company. The station dropped the "T" from its call sign on New Year's Day 1967. Scripps sold WMC to Ellis Communications in 1993; Ellis in turn sold to a new broadcasting group formed by the Retirement Systems of Alabama, and subsequently named Raycom Media.
