The News-Press traces its roots to the founding of the Moore County News on July 17, 1927. The North Plains Press was founded in 1960. The News acquired The Press in December 1964. The resulting combination became The Moore County News-Press. Southern Newspapers, Inc. acquired the newspaper in 1983, and sold it to Lancaster Management Group in 2000.
