Deseret Morning News is a daily newspaper in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA covering local news, sports, business, jobs, and community events. The newspaper is published seven days a week. The Deseret News was founded in 1850, three years after Brigham Young led Mormon pioneers to the Salt Lake Valley. The newspaper was the first published in what was then called the territory of Deseret, which later became the state of Utah. In 2003 the paper switched from afternoon to morning delivery. The newspaper is owned by Deseret News Publishing Company, a subsidiary of Deseret Management Corporation, which is a for-profit business holdings company owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS, commonly known as the Mormon Church). Among Utah daily newspapers, the Deseret News is second to the Salt Lake Tribune in circulation, and both are published by Newspaper Agency Corporation, which they co-own under a joint operating agreement. The Deseret News also publishes a weekly tabloid insert, the Church News, which is included in the newspaper and also distributed as a separate publication outside Utah with the "Mormon Times" section.
