The Herald was established in 1874 by L.P. Thayer when he purchased the Green Mountain Herald, published in Randolph. The newspaper was then purchased by L.B. Johnson in 1894. In 1941, Johnson changed the name to The White River Valley Herald. In 1945, John Drysdale bought the newspaper. In 1971, M. Dickey Drysdale became the newspaper's fourth publisher.

Circulation: 6,000 copies

This newspaper is owned by the Drysdale family.
