On June 12, 2009, MHz Networks began broadcasting ten premier international television channels, free of charge. MHz Networks Chief Executive, Frederick Thomas said, "We aim to connect the world community and to promote global understanding. Nowhere will that be more evident than in Washington, D.C., where through our ten channels, we hope to help connect domestic decision makers and international opinion."

In 2003, one of the MHz Networks channels (licensed as WNVT) became the first non-commercial "digital-only" broadcast channel in the country.

The new MHz Networks 10-channel line-up is on channels 30.1-30.10. Channels 30.1-30.5 originate from the Fairfax Country tower (WNVC) in Merrifield, Virginia, including MHz Worldview, NHK World TV, MCN, RT and BVN. Channels 30.6-30.10 originate from Prince William County tower (WNVT) located near Quantico, Virginia/95 South, including SABC, France 24, NTA, VTV and euronews.

On July 1, 2009, Al Jazeera English will replace BVN on channel 30.5. The MHz Networks line-up is also available via all local cable, satellite and telco operators.

MHz Networks is a division of Commonwealth Public Broadcasting Corporation, headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. MHz has studio facilities in Falls Church, VA and at Washington, D.C.'s Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.
